potential energy = mgh
where m is mass of body
g is acceleration due to gravity
h is the height of object from ground
a/c to question,
height is same
e.g H1 = H2 = H( let )
but M1 = 2M2
so, PE1 = M1gH1 = 2M2gH
PE2 = M2gH2 =M2gH
PE1/PE2 = 2/1

Hi friend ,
Potential energy of an object = mgh
When mass is doubled = 2m
Potential energy when mass is doubled = 2mgh
Ratio = Potential energy of the object when mass is doubled / Potential energy of the object.
Ratio = 2mgh/ mgh
Ratio = 2/1
Ratio = 2:1
-------------------------------
Hope this helped u...
