We can only find ratios when the units are same.

So, lets convert Rs 10 into paise.

Since 1 Rs = 100 paise,

Therefore, 10 Rs = 10 × 100 = 1000 paise.

Now, since the units are same, lets find the ratio.

We have to find the ratio of 1000 paise and 50 paise.

 \frac{1000 \: paise}{50 \: paise}

Now, reduce them in their simplest forms.

On reducing, we get -:

 \frac{20}{1}  = 20 : 1

Thus, the ratio of Rs 10 and 50 paise is 20 : 1.

Additional information -:

What is a ratio?

A ratio is a way to show the relationship or compare two numbers of the same kind.

Can we find the ratio when the units are different?

No, ratios can only be found when the units are same. If you ever find the units different when finding the ratio, convert one of the units into another.

For example, in this sum we converted Rs 10 into paise. You could also convert 50 paise into Rs but the answer would come in decimals and it would become a complex process. So the easier method is to convert the larger unit into the smaller one.

Is it necessary that we always find the ratio in its simplest form?

No, it's not necessary but its better to find the ratio in its simplest forms. It looks more neat. If you want, you can find the ratio without reducing it to its simplest form. But I would recommend reducing it.

Hope it helps! :)
