then by the section formula

coordinate of x = m1x2+m2x1 upon m1+m2            ......(1)

then x1=1

x2=2

m1=k and m2= 1

substituting this value in 1 we obtain

-1= k*2+1*1 upon k+1

-k-1=2k+1

-1-1=2k+k

-2=3k so k= -2/3

there fore it devide in the ratio of -2/3:1
