Answer:

2 : 7   point of division (7/3, 0)

Step-by-step explanation:

Hi,

Let us assume that the line segment joining A (3, -3) and B(-2, 7) divided by x-axis in the ratio λ : 1

Using internal sectional formula, we get

( 3 -2λ/λ+1, -2 + 7λ/λ + 1)

But Since this point is on x-axis, it's y-coordinate should be 0

=> 7λ -2/(λ + 1) = 0

=> 7λ = 2

=> λ = 2 : 7.

Hence x-axis divided the line segment joining the point A and B in the ration 2 : 7

Point of division is ( 3 -2λ/λ+1, -2 + 7λ/λ + 1) where λ = 2/7

is ( (3-4/7)/(2/7 + 1) , 0)

= ( (21/7)/(9/7) , 0 )

=  ( 7/3 , 0)

Hope, it helped !
