★ Apply formula

Normal/vertical shift = d (1-1/μ)

d = actual depth(thickness)

by substituting the given values we get as

1 = 3(1-1/μ)

1 = 3 -3/μ

3/μ = 2

μ = 1.5

happy to help (:

Given that,

The thickness of the glass slab is 3 cm, and the vertical shift is 1 cm.

So, the real depth of the glass slab is 3 cm.

Now,

We need to find the refractive index of the glass slab.

Answer :-

We know that, real depth = apparent depth - vertical shift.

⇒3 = apparent depth - 1

⇒Apparent depth = 3 + 1

⇒Apparent depth = 4

Now, Refractive Index (R.I) = Real depth/Apparent depth

⇒R.I = 3/4
