Let the block of mass M moves a distance X towards right than the distance moved by the pulley in the forward direction is =XM.

increase in length of the thread due to movement of the pulley =2XM

Let the  block of mass m moves a distance of x towards right

Decrease in length of the thread due to movement of the block of mass

m =xm.

As the length of the thread remains constant

so increase in length = decrease in length

2XM=xm

differentiating the above relation with respect to time we get the relation between their velocity

d(2XM)/dt=d(xm)/dt

2VM=vm

differentiating the above relation with respect to time we get the relation between their accelerationd

(2VM)/dt=d(vm)/dt

2AM=am
