Given Three points r collinear

Then it means that their slopes r equal
m1= 2-y/1-x

m2= 0-2/7-1

= -2/6
= -1/3
Now m1=m2

2-y/1-x= -1/3
6-3y= -1+x
x+3y= 7

This is the relation between x &y

Answer:

The points A (x,y) , B (1,2) and C (7,0) will be collinear if

Area of triangle = 0

→ 1/2 [x (2-0) + 1 (0-y) + 7 (y+2) ] = 0

→ 2x - y + 7y - 14 = 0

→ 2x + 6y - 14 = 0

→ x + 3y - 7 = 0

This is the relation between x and y if the points are (x,y), (1,2) and (7,0).

  • the distance of a point from the y - axis is called abscissa.

  • The distance of a point from the x - axis is called ordinate.

  • The coordinates of a point on the x axis are of the from (0,x).

  • The coordinates of a point on y axis are of the form (0,y).
