16

susceptibility=M/H

where M = magnetization

H=magnetic field

susceptibility = 3300/220 = 15

relative permeability=1+susceptibility

ur=1+15 = 16

Given : A ferromagnetic material if field of strength 220A/m produces a magnetization of 3300A/m in it.

To find : The relative permeability.

Solution :

The relative permeability is 16

We can simply solve this numerical problem by using the following process. (our goal is to calculate the relative permeability by using the given data)

First of all, we have to calculate the susceptibility.

Now, we know that :

Susceptibility = Magnetization / Magnetic field strength

If we put the given values in the above mentioned mathematical relationship, we get :

Susceptibility = 3300/220 = 15

(As it is a ratio of two physical quantities with same unit, the final result has not unit.)

Now, we also know that :

Relative permeability = 1 + Susceptibility

If we put the given values, in the above mentioned mathematical relationship, we get :

Relative permeability = 1 + 15 = 16

(Relative permeability is also independent of any unit.)

Hence, the relative permeability is 16
