Given 9x³ - 3x²+x -5
And x - 2/3

x -2/3) 9x³ - 3x² + x - 5 (9x² + 3x + 3
           9x³ - 6x²
          -      +
         ---------------------------
                    3x² + x - 5
                    3x² - 2x
                   -     +
           ----------------------
                           3x - 5
                           3x - 2
                          -    +
                    ----------------
                                 -3
∴ The remainder is -3

Concept

Division is one of the four basic mathematical operations which is used to divide numbers and equations.

For example

6 / 2 = 3

Find

Remainder when 9x3 – 3x2 + x – 5 is divide by x – 2 /3

Solution

Step 1)

1. Divide the leading term of the dividend with leading term of divisor

2. Multiply it with the divisor

3) Subtract the dividend from result

Step 2)

1. Divide the leading term of obtained result by the leading term of divisor.

2. Multiply it with the divisor

3. Subtract the remainder from result

Step 3)

1. Divide the leading term of obtained result by the leading term of divisor.

2. Multiply it with the divisor

3. Subtract the remainder from result

So, the degree of remainder is less than the degree of the divisor

Remainder is -3
