-x³-1x

__________

2x²+3x+1

___________

1x+1

By remainder theorem

x+1=0

x=-1

p(x ) = x³ + 3x² - 3x - 1

p( -1 )=( -1 )³+ 3( -1 )²-3 ( -1 ) -1

= -1 + 3 ( 1 ) +3-1

= -1 + 3 + 3-1

= 6 - 2

=4

Thus remainder is 4
