1) p ( y ) = y⁴ - 3y² + 7y - 10 ÷ y - 2

soln: By remainder theorem:

Let the root of of p(y) = y⁴ - 3y² + 7y - 10 be y - 2 = 0 i.e y = 2

therefore,

p ( 2 ) = ( 2 ) - 3 ( 2 )² + 7 ( 2 ) - 10

= 16 - 12 + 14 - 10

= 30 - 22

= 8

therefore, remainder = 8
