Given:- x³ – ax²+ 5x – a is divided by (x – a).

To Find:- The remainder .

Answer :-

We know that when a polynomial say p(x) is divided by x-k , then the remainder is p (k) .

Here , say p(x) = x³ - ax² + 5x - a .

Equating x-a with 0 :-

=> x - a = 0

=> x = 0+a

=> x = a.

Hence the remainder will be p(a) .

Putting x = a in p(x) :-

=> Remainder = p(a)

=> R = a³ - a × a² + 5a - a

=> R = a³ - a³ + 4a.

=> R = 4a

Hence the remainder is 4a .
