Understand that x^3 + 3x^2 + 3x + 1 = the dividend.

And x + 1 = the divisor.

We are dividing x^3 + 3x^2 + 3x + 1 by x + 1.

1. Put:

Divisor = 0

X + 1 = 0

Deduct 1 from both sides.

X = -1

2. Let p(x) = x^3 + 3x^2 + 3x + 1

Put x = -1

p(-1) = (-1)^3 + 3(-1)^2 + 3(-1) + 1

= -1 + 3 - 3 + 1

= 0

Therefore, the remainder = p(-1) = 0
