Applying quadratic formula we can find the roots,

                               [-b±√(b^2-4ac)]/2a

here a = 2

        b = 1

        c = 4

hence here roots are =  [-1±√(1^2-4(2)4)]/2(2)

                                    =>(-1±√-31)/4
