Answer :

x = -2 , 8

Solution :

Here ,

The given quadratic equation is ;

x² - 6x - 16 = 0

We need to find the roots of the given quadratic equation .

Now ,

Let's find the zeros of the given quadratic equation by middle term splitting method .

Thus ,

=> x² - 6x - 16 = 0

=> x² - 8x + 2x - 16 = 0

=> x(x - 8) + 2(x - 8) = 0

=> (x - 8)(x + 2) = 0

=> Either (x - 8) = 0 OR (x + 2) = 0

Case1 : If (x - 8) = 0

=> x - 8 = 0

=> x = 8

Case2 : If (x + 2) = 0

=> x + 2 = 0

=> x = -2

Hence ,

Roots of the given quadratic equation are ; x = -2 , 8
