x -3/x = 2

(x^2 -3)/x = 2

x^2 - 3 = 2*x

x^2 -3 = 2x

x^2 -3 - 2x = 0

x^2 - 2x -3 = 0

x^2 - (3-1)x - 3 = 0

x^2 - 3x +x -3 = 0

x(x-3) + 1(x-3) = 0

(x-3) (x+1) = 0

Now,

x = 3   OR    x = -1

the roots are 3,(-1)
