Question :- find the roots of the equation 4x + 3y = 12 ?

Solution :-

we know that,

  • Root of an equation definition are values which, substituted for the unknown quantity in an equation, satisfies the equation.

So, given equation is :-

  • 4x + 3y = 12 .

we will try to put values one by one .

1) putting x = 0

→ 4x + 3y = 12

→ 4 * 0 + 3y = 12

→ 0 + 3y = 12

→ 3y = 12

dividing both sides by 3,

→ y = 4.

Therefore, roots of equation are (0 , 4).

2) putting y = 0

→ 4x + 3y = 12

→ 4x + 3 * 0 = 12

→ 4x + 0 = 12

→ 4x = 12

dividing both sides by 4,

→ x = 3.

Therefore, roots of equation are (3 , 0).

3) putting x = 1

→ 4x + 3y = 12

→ 4 * 1 + 3y = 12

→ 4 + 3y = 12

→ 3y = 12 - 4

→ 3y = 8

dividing both sides by 3,

→ y = (8/3) .

Therefore, roots of equation are (1 , 8/3).

4) putting y = 1

→ 4x + 3y = 12

→ 4x + 3 * 1 = 12

→ 4x + 3 = 12

→ 4x = 12 - 3

→ 4x = 9

dividing both sides by 4,

→ x = (9/4) .

Therefore, roots of equation are (9/4 , 1).

Hence, we can conclude that, roots of the given linear equation are (0 , 4) , (3, 0) , (1, 8/3) and (9/4 , 1).
