Hi !

x + 1/x = 3

[x² +  1 ] /x = 3

x² + 1 = 3x

x² - 3x + 1 = 0

solving by quadratic formula ,

b² - 4ac = (-3)² - 4 × 1 × 1
             = 9 - 4
             = 5
 \sqrt{ b^{2} - 4ac} = √5

√D = √5

x = -b ± √D / 2a
   -(-3)± √5 / 2
  = 3 ±√5/2

the roots are 3 + √5/2 and 3 - √5/2
