x²-8x+7=0

Using middle term splitting,

x²-7x-x+7=0

x(x-7)-1(x-7)=0

(x-7)(x-1)=0

Now,

x-7=0

x=7

And

x-1=0

x=1

Therefore, 7 and 1 are the roots of the equation.
