The scale factor could refer to area or side length.

in each case you need to know 1) the greater and lesser triangles areas and simply divide or

2) the lengths if two corresponding sides, and again “divide & conquer@

a third possibility is scaling up or down of an angle, which will result in triangles that are no longer similar, so I’ll leave that out of any discussion or conjecture for now, as the angle could be scaled up or down and change of leave the area invariant, and an opposite side will change lengths and certainly the other angles, to preserve 180° as the angular sum

To find a scale factor between two similar figures, find two corresponding sides and write the ratio of the two sides. If you begin with the smaller figure, your scale factor will be less than one. If you begin with the larger figure, your scale factor will be greater than one.
