let the side of the square be x . area of square is x^2.
x^2=1
(i) if the sides of the square are doubled one side becomes 2x. Then it's area is (2x)^2=4(x^2)=4×1=4
therefore the area increases 4 times.
(ii) if the side of the squares are halved, then one side will become x/2 . then ithu area will be (x/2)^2=(x^2)/4 =1/4
therefore the area decreases by 1/4times.
