Let s = the length of a side of the square.

Let s + 1 = the length of the diagonal of the square.

By using Pythagoras theorem,

+ = (s + 1)²

2s² = + 2s + 1

- 2s + 1 = 0

Use the quadratic formula.

- s - s + 1

s(s - 1) - 1(s - 1)

(s-1) (s-1)

so,

s = 1 m....
