Given :- find the sign of cos 400° ?

Solution :-

→ cos 400° = cos (360° + 40°) = cos(360° + A) .

since cos 400° is in first quadrant. we know that, in first quadrant values of all trignometry ratios is +ve .

therefore, value of cos 400° will be positive .

Extra :-

  • value of cos is negative in second and third quadrant .
  • in 4th quadrant value of cos is positive .

Given :  Cos 400°

To Find :   signs of cos 400°​

Solution:

As we know that  Cos ( n *  360°   ±  x)  = Cosx     where n is integer

400 = 1 * 360 + 40

Hence Cos 400°  = Cos (  1 * 360° + 40°)

=> Cos 400° = Cos 40°

Hence lies in 1st Quadrant

and in 1st Quadrant Cos is + ve

Hence signs of cos 400°​  is + Ve
