Answer:

Use Formula,

Equivalent Discount = (A + B) - (AB/100) where A = First Discount, B =Second Discount.

Equivalent Discount = (20 + 10) - (20*10)/100

Equivalent Discount = 30 - 2 = 28%.

Graphic Change Method

100==20%(disc.)==>80==10%(disc.)==>72

Equivalent discount = 28%.

Hope it helps

Given:

find the single discount equivalent to two successive discounts of 20% and 30%

Solution:

Know that, If two successive discount of x% and y% is given on a article then the net discount is given by-

\[ =  - x - y + \frac{{xy}}{{100}}\]

Therefore,

\[\begin{array}{l} =  - 20 - 30 + \frac{{20 \times 30}}{{100}}\\ =  - 50 + 6\\ =  - 44\% \end{array}\]

Here, negative sign shows the discount.

Hence, the discount equivalent to two successive discounts of 20% and 30% discount  is 44%.
