Given:  A series of discount

To find: Single discount equivalent to series

Find:

Let us assume the marked price to be Rs. 100

After first discount on MP = 20% of Rs. 100

                                          = 20/100 x 100

                                          = Rs. 20

Price after first discount= Rs 100 - Rs 20

                                       = Rs 80

After second discount on MP = 20% OF Rs. 80

                                                 = 20/100 x 80

                                                 = Rs 16

Price after second discount= Rs. 80 - Rs. 16

                                              = Rs. 64

After third discount on MP = 10% on Rs. 64

                                            = 10/100 x 64

                                            = Rs. 6.4

Price after third discount= Rs. 64 - Rs 6.4

                                        = Rs. 57.6

The selling price after 3 series of discount= Rs. 57.6

Single equivalent discount= Marked price - Selling price

                                            = Rs. 100 - Rs.57.6

                                            = Rs. 42.2

Hence, the single equivalent discount is Rs 42.2 or 42.2%
