Here is the answer to your question.
Let the marked price of the article be Rs 100.
First discount = 20%
Price after the first discount = (100 − 20) = Rs 80
Second discount = 5% of 80
=5100×80=Rs 4
Price after the second discount = (80 − 4) = Rs 76
Net selling price = Rs 76
∴ Single discount equivalent to the given successive discounts = (100 − 76)% = 24%

Given
Two successive discounts are 20% and 5%
Shortcut
X+y- xy/100
Where x in first discount and y is second discount
=20+5-(20x5)/100
=25-100/100
=25-1=24%
Or u can use this one also
Let a number 100
Now allowing discount of 20% we get
=100-20% of 100(i.e 20)
=100-20
=80
The number become 80 after 20% discount
Now again allowing discount of 5% on 80
We get
=80-4
=76
So total discount
=100-76
=24
=24%
This is ur ans hope it will help you in case of any doubt comment below
