Let the number be 'x'
........................................................................
So, when divided by 36,the number is x
and remainder is 5
........................................................................
A/Q
 \frac{x}{36}  = 5 \\  =  > x = 180

So,the smallest number which when divided by 36 leaves remainder 5 is 180,
........................................................................
Similarly,
 \frac{x}{54}  = 5 \\  =  > x = 270
So,the smallest number which when divided by 54 leaves remainder 5 is 270.

Find LCM of 54 and 36

54 = 2×3×3×3
36 = 2×2×3×3

LCM = 2×2×3×3×3 = 108

So when you divide 108 by 36 or 54, remainder will be zero.

You want remainder to be 5. So add 5 to 108. You will get 113.

When you divide 113 by 36 or 54, remainder will be 5.

113 is your answer
