x = 1 and y = 2

Step-by-step explanation:

The given a pair of linear equations:

3x + 2y = 7                                    ...................(1)

and 4x + y = 6                                ...................(2)

To find, the values of x and y=

Multiplying equation (2) by 2, we get

2(4x + y) = 2(6)

8x + 2y = 12                                      ...................(3)

Subtracting (1) from (3), we get

8x + 2y - (3x + 2y) = 12 - 7

⇒ 8x + 2y - 3x - 2y = 5

⇒ 5x = 5

⇒ x = 1

Put x = 1 in equation (1), we get

3(1) + 2y = 7

⇒ 3 + 2y = 7

⇒ 2y = 7 - 3 = 4

⇒ y = 2

∴ x = 1 and y = 2
