Answer:

x+y = 5 --(1)

y-x = 9 --(2)

y = x + 9 --(3)

substitute 3 in 1

x + ( x+9 ) = 5

2x + 9 = 5

2x = -4

x = -2

substitute x back in 3

y = -2 + 9 = 7

Thanks for your question...

Your required answer :

By substitution method :

Given ,

  • x + y = 5 ------ ( 1 )
  • y - x = 9 ------ ( 2 )

Now value of x from equation 1 :

  • x = 5 - y

Now , put the value of x in equation 2 :

  • y - ( 5 - y ) = 9
  • y - 5 + y = 9
  • 2y - 5 = 9
  • 2y = 9 + 5
  • 2y = 14
  • y =
  •  \frac{14}{2}
  • y = 7

For Finding value of x put the value of y in equation 1 :

  • x + 7 = 5
  • x = 5 - 7
  • x = -2
