Answer:

x = 2

y = 3

Step-by-step explanation:

5x - 2y = 4 ------> ( 1 )

3x + y = 9 -------> ( 2 )

from equation 1...

2y = 5x - 4

y = (5x - 4) / 2

putting this value of y in equation 2....

gives

3x + (5x - 4) /2 = 9

taking LCM and sending 1/2 as 2 to the other side

6x + 5x - 4 = 18

11x - 4 = 18

11x = 18+4 = 22

therefore...

x = 22/11

i.e..... [ x = 2 ]

putting this in y = (5x - 4) / 2

gives y = ( 10 - 4 ) / 2

i.e.....

[ y = 3 ]

hope it helps....
