SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

Find the solution to the equation p - 3 = 7 from the values (5, 7, 10). Show that the other values does not satisfy the equation.

EVALUATION

Here the given equation equation is

 \sf{p - 3 = 7 \:  \:  \:  \:  -   -  -  -  - (1)}

We now solve for p

 \sf{p - 3 = 7 \:  \:  \: }

 \sf{ \implies \: p  = 3 +  7 \: }

 \sf{ \implies \: p  = 10 \: }

So the required value of p = 10

CHECK

Here the given equation

 \sf{  \: p  -  3  = 7 \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  -  -  - (1) \: }

1. Putting p = 5 in Equation (1) we get

 \sf{  \: 5  -  3  = 7 \: }

 \sf{  \implies \: 2  = 7 \: }

Which is absurd

So p = 5 is not a solution

2. Putting p = 7 in Equation 1 we get

 \sf{  \: 7 - 3  = 7 \: }

 \sf{  \implies \: 4  = 7 \: }

Which is absurd

So p = 7 is not a solution

3. Putting p = 10 in Equation 1 we get

 \sf{  \: 10 - 3  = 7 \: }

 \sf{  \implies \: 7 = 7 \: }

Which is true

So p = 10 is the required solution
