3x+4y= -17--------------------(i)

5x+2y= -19-------------------(ii)

soln:-

firstly, we take both of the equations in sequence:

3x+4y= -17 ---------------(i)

5x+2y= -19----------------(ii)

Multiplying the whole equation (ii) by 2 to make the coefficients of y equal. Then we get the equations:-

3x+4y= -17 ---------------(iii)

10x+4y= -38---------------(iv)

Now we eliminate equation (iv) to equation (iii) by elimination method, we get:-

           10x+4y= -38

            3x+4y= -17

         -     -        +

-------------------------------------------

          7x         =  -21

            x         =  -3

Then, we substitute the value of x in equation (i), we obtain:-

3( -3 )+4y= -17

-9 + 4y = -17

      4y  = -17+9

     4y   = -8

       y   = -2

ANSWER:-

x = -3

y = -2
