Answer:

hope this helps u

Step-by-step explanation:

here we use (a+b)²=a²+2ab+b²

23²=(20+3)² = 20²+2*20*3+3²

                    = 400+120+9

                     = 529

Square of 23 = 529

Given:

Number 23

To find:

The square of 23 using an identity.

Solution:

When can find square of 23 by using an identity in two ways

The identities we can use are

(a+b)² = a² + b² + 2ab

(a-b)² = a² + b² - 2ab

The square of 23 using  (a+b)² = a² + b² + 2ab

Take 23 = 20 + 3

Square of 23 = (20+3)(20+3) = (20+3)²

Take a = 20 and b = 3 and apply above formula

(20+3)² = 20² + 3² + 2(20)(3) = 400 + 9 + 120 = 529

⇒ 23² = 259

The square of 23 using  (a-b)² = a² + b² - 2ab

Take 23 = 30 - 7

Square of 23 = (30 - 7)(30 - 7) = (30-7)²

Take a = 30 and b = 7 and apply above formula

(30-7)² = 30² + 7² - 2(30)(7) = 900 + 49 - 420 = 529

⇒ 23² = 259

Therefore,

Square of 23 = 529
