To find : square of 59 without actual multiplication.

Solution :

  • To find square of 59 without actual multiplication , we split the number in the form of a + b , where a is a multiple of 10 .
  • Therefore , split  59 as ( 50 + 9 ) .
  • Now to find square we write as:  ( 59^{2}) = ( 50 + 9 ) ^{2}
  • Applying identity (a + b)^{2} =a^{2}  + 2ab + b^{2}
  • Thus , (50 + 9 )^{2} = (50)^{2} + 2(50) ( 9) + (9)^{2}

                                 = 2500 + 900 + 81

                                 = 3481

Hence , square of 59 is 3481.
