To solve this using diagonal method, make a square and draw 2×2 grids into it.

  1. Place 64 above the square as shown in attachment.
  2. Place 64 in left also.
  3. Multiply 6 by 6 and place digits in two parts of 1st square.Repeat the process for each number.
  4. Last digit in the diagonal is last digit of square of 64.

Add the numbers along the diagonal and add,if carry appears take it to the sum of next diagonal and so on

Resultant will be square of 64.

4th digit is 6

3rd digit is 4+1+4=9;

2nd digit is 2+6+2=10; 2nd digit is 0,take 1 as carry

1st digit is 3+1(carry)=4;  

 Thus, square of 64 is 4096.
