Concept

Finding square of a number in a particular structure or format and doing some calculation is called as column method

Find

Square of 26 using column method

Solution

We need to find square of 26 using column method

Number is 26

Here a = 2 and b = 6

Step 1) Make a table with 3 columns and write the values of a², 2ab and b² in these three columns

Step 2) Underline the unit digit of b² and add the tens digit to 2ab term if any

Step 3) Underline the unit digit formed in 2ab column and add its tens digit to a² term column if any

Step 4) Underline the digit at a² term column

Step 5) Write all the underline digits and thats our square

26² = 676

Therefore the square of 26 using column method is 676.
