  • With a calculator: 3.605551275, so rounded to 3.606 (3dp).

  • Without a calculator sqrt (9)=3 and sqrt (16)=4, so start using manual trial and improvement at 3.5 or 3.6 because 13 is about halfway between but closer to 16 than 9.

  • EDIT: I forgot to mention that -3.606 (3dp) is also a solution.
