Answer:

Division method more commonly known as long division method is used in finding square root of large numbers. We have another method where a number can be expressed as a product of prime numbers. This method is known as prime factorization method. But this method becomes tedious when number involved is large. To overcome this problem we use the long division method.

Let's find the square root of 2304 by Division method:

Place a bar over the pair of numbers starting from unit’s digit. So here bar is on 23 and 04.

Take the largest number as the divisor whose square is less than or equal to the number on the extreme left. The number on the extreme left is the dividend. So here 23 is first dividend. Divide and write the quotient. Here divisor is 4, quotient is 4 and the remainder is 7.

We then bring down the number which is under the next bar to the right side of the remainder, in this case we bring down 04. Now, 704 is our new dividend.

Now double the value of the quotient and enter it with a blank on the right side. This means (8_) is our new divisor where we need to find (_) for unit place.

Now we have to select the largest digit for the unit place of the divisor (8_) such that the new number when multiplied by the new digit at unit’s place is equal to or less than the dividend 704. Trying numbers one by one,we will get 8 as the digit for unit place since 88×8 = 704. Here, 88 is divisor, 8 is quotient and there is no remainder.

Finally, arrange the quotients 4 & 8 to form the number as per their place values.

In this way, by division method we can conclude that square root of 2304 is 48.
