Heya !!!
Step 1 : Mark up the digits in pair starting with the one digit. Each pair
and remaining 1 digit is called period.
Step 2 : Think of the largest number whose square is either equal to or just less than the first period starting from the left. This digit is the quotient as well as the divisor. Put the quotient above the period and write the product of divisor and quotient just below the first period.
Step 3 : Find the remainder (17 in this case).
Step 4 : Bring down the next pair of digits (second period) to the right of the remainder. This becomes the new dividend ( 1701 ).
Step 5 : Double the first quotient and either it as divisor with a blank on its right.
Step 6 : Guess a largest possible digit to fill in the blank which also becomes the new digit in the quotient such that when the new digit is multiplied to the new divisor, the product is either less than or equal to the divided.
Step 7 : Now, subtract the product of new divisor and the new digit from the new dividend.
Step 8 : If the remainder is 0 and no period is left, then we stop and the current quotient is the square root of the given number.
So, here √9801 = 99
Hope it helps.
