Given :

Mass of student = 60 kg

Area of stool =

20 \times 20 \: c {m}^{2}  = 100 \: c {m}^{2}

100 \: c {m}^{2}  = 0.01 \:  {m}^{2}

To Find : Stress generated on the stool

Solution:

Formula for stress =

force \div area

Force =

60 \times 9.8 \: kg \: m \:  {s}^{ - 2}

=

588 \: kg \: m \:  {s}^{ - 2}

Therefore,

Stress =

588 \div 0.01 \: kg \:  {m}^{ - 1}  \:  {s}^{ - 2}

Stress =

58800 \: kg \:  {m}^{ - 1}  \:  {s}^{ - 2}

Therefore, stress is 58800 kg m-1 s-2 or pascal.

Given :  mass of students sitting on stool is 60 kg

cross section area of stool is. 20x20cm²

To Find :  stress generated in a stool

Solution:

mass of students sitting on stool is 60 kg

Force Applied on stool = Weight of student

Weight of student = mg

m = mass = 60 kg

g = 10 m/s²

Weight of student = 60 * 10  = 600 N

Area of Stool = 20 * 20  cm²

= (20/100) * (20/100)  m²

=  4/100  m²

stress generated in a stool   =  Force on Stool / Area of stool

= 600 / (4/100)

= 150 * 100

= 15000 N/m²

= 15 kN/m²

= 15 kPa

the stress generated in a stool   is  15 kN/m²  or  15 kPa
