  • Begin by making the denominators of both the two numbers to same, to add it.
  • Inorder to make the denominators same, first we have to find their LCM, i.e, LCM(3&6) is 6.
  • Now we have to make 1/3's denominator to 6, so we will multiply 1/3 with 2 on both numerator and denominator, so it doesnt change the value.

 \frac{1}{3}  \times  \frac{2}{2}  =  \frac{2}{6}

  • Now lets add both the rational numbers, since their denominators are same.

 \frac{2}{6}  +  \frac{2}{6}  =  \frac{4}{6}  =  \frac{2}{3}
