How to do :-

Here, we are given with three fractions to add. We know that, while adding or subtracting the fractions, if the given fractions are unlike fractions, we should convert them into like fractions by taking the LCM of the denominators. If the given fractions are mixed fractions, we should convert them into improper fractions.

\:

Solution (1) :-

{\tt \leadsto \dfrac{5}{7} + 1 \dfrac{3}{8} + 1 \dfrac{1}{2}}

{\tt \leadsto \dfrac{5}{7} + \dfrac{11}{8} + \dfrac{3}{2}}

LCM of 7, 8 and 2 is 56.

{\tt \leadsto \dfrac{5 \times 8}{7 \times 8} + \dfrac{11 \times 7}{8 \times 7} + \dfrac{3 \times 28}{2 \times 28}}

{\tt \leadsto \dfrac{40}{56} + \dfrac{77}{56} + \dfrac{84}{56}}

{\tt \leadsto \dfrac{40 + 77 + 84}{56} = \dfrac{201}{56}}

{\tt \leadsto \dfrac{201}{56} = \boxed{\tt 3 \dfrac{33}{56}}}

Solution (2) :-

{\tt \leadsto \dfrac{2}{10} + 1 \dfrac{4}{5} + 1 \dfrac{3}{10}}

{\tt \leadsto \dfrac{2}{10} +\dfrac{9}{5} + \dfrac{13}{10}}

LCM of 10, 5 and 10 is 10.

{\tt \leadsto \dfrac{2}{10} +\dfrac{9 \times 2}{5 \times 2} + \dfrac{13}{10}}

{\tt \leadsto \dfrac{2}{10} + \dfrac{18}{10} + \dfrac{13}{10}}

{\tt \leadsto \dfrac{2 + 18 + 13}{10} = \dfrac{33}{10}}

{\tt \leadsto \dfrac{33}{10} = \boxed{\tt 3 \dfrac{3}{10}}}

More to know :-

  • While adding or subtracting the fractions, if the answer is obtained as an improper fraction, so that it becomes easier to read and understand.
  • While adding or subtracting the fractions, convert the mixed to improper fractions, but the final answer should be written as mixed fraction.
