There are 2 ways of doing this. As previously mentioned, you can use the Least Common denominator method, or you can do it the “one size fits all” way which can be more cumbersome. Let’s do it this way first.
Multiply all the denominators together. 2 x 4 x 8 = 64. This will be the new denominator.
Convert all the fractions by multiplying only the other denominators’ product to both the numerator and denominator.
So for 1/2, we will use the product of 4 x 8, ie 32. Multiply top and bottom by 32. We have 32/64
For 1/4, we use the product of the other 2 denominators, 2 x 8, ie 16. Multiply top and bottom of 1/4 by 16. We have 16/64.
And for 1/8, we will use 2 x 4, ie 8 as the multiplier. 8/64
Now that we have them all converted, write it out again:
3264+1664+864=32+16+864
=5664
Now we want to reduce, if possible. 8 divides into 56, 7 times. and 8 divides into 64, 8 times. Giving us a reduced fraction of 78
The reason I did it this way is because most of the other answers only show you how to solve this particular set of fractions. Whereas my method will allow you to solve other similar problems that have a higher degree of difficulty, especially those with no LCD.
