It can be further expressed as

1/1 -1/2 +1/2–1/3+1/3–1/4+1/4–1/5+1/5-1/6+1/6–1/7+1/7-1/8+1/8-1/9+1/9–1/10+1/10–1/11+1/11–1/12

Here all the terms get cancelled except the first and last one

1/1–1/12
