5x + 7y + 3x - 2y \\ 5x + 3x - 2y + 7y \\ 8x + 5y

5x \:  + 7y \:  + 3x \:  - 2y

now we can keep like terms together

5x \:  + 3x \:  + 7 y \:  - 2y

5x +3x = 8x

7y -2y = 5y

so the answer is 8x +5y
