−17

1st step:

-8+23

Minus and plus is minus

So we subtract

-8 +23 = 15

We get a positive 15 since the sign we accompany with the number we get as the answer is the sign of the larger number.

Since 23 is positive we get a positive 15 as the answer.

2nd step

15-32

Now we subtract since 15 is a positive and - 32 is a negative.. Plus and minus is always minus so we subtract..

The answer we get after subtracting 15 and 32 is 17

- 32 is the larger number here so the answer is negative (we add the negative sign)

Thus, we get - 17

- 8, 23 and -32
= - 8 + 23 + (-32)
= - 8 + 23 - 32
= - 40 + 23
= - 17
