Since, there is one middle term, the number of terms is odd.
Let the total number of terms be 'n'
So, the middle term is n+1/2.
Now,
an+1/2 = a + d[(n+1)/2 - 1]
8 = a + [d(n-1)] / 2
8 = [2a + d(n-1)] / 2
16 = 2a + d(n-1)
16 = a + a + d(n-1)
16 = a + an
