Question

Find the sum of the first five terms of the GP with first term 3 and common ratio 2.

Solution

Given :-

  • First terms of G.P. (a) = 3
  • Common ratio of G.P. (r) = 2

Find :-

  • First Five term of G.P.

Explanation

We know,

Nth terms of G.P. = ar^(n-1)

Where,

  • a = First terms
  • r = common ratio
  • n = number of terms

For Second terms

==> 2th terms be = 3 * 2^(2-1)

==> 2th terms be = 3 * 2¹

==> 2th terms be = 6

________________________

For third terms

==> 3th terms be = 3 * 2 ^(3-1)

==> 3th terms be = 3 * 2²

==> 3th terms be = 3 * 4

==> 3th terms be = 12

________________________

For forth terms

==> 4th terms be = 3 * 2^(4-1)

==> 4th terms be = 3 * 2³

==> 4th terms be = 3 * 8

==> 4th terms be = 24

_________________________

For fifth terms

==> 5th terms be = 3 * 2^(5-1)

==> 5th terms be = 3 * 2⁴

==> 5th terms be = 3 * 16

==> 5th terms be = 48

_________________________

So, All terms of G.P. will be

  • 3 , 6 , 12 , 24 , 48 ..............
