7\frac{1}{4}  + 8 + 2 \frac{1}{2}  \\  \\ add \: whole \: first \:  \\  \\ 7 + 8 + 2 = 17 \\  \\ lcm \: of \: denominator \:  = 4 \\  \frac{1}{4}  \times  \frac{1}{1}  =  \frac{1}{4}  \\  \\  \frac{1}{2}  \times  \frac{2}{2}  =  \frac{2}{4}  \\  \\ add \: them \: also \:  \\  \\  \frac{1}{4}  +  \frac{2}{4}  =  \frac{3}{4}  \\  \\  = 17 \frac{3}{4}\\ make\:improper\:fraction \\ \\ = \frac{71}{4}

To find the sum, at first we need to change the mixed fraction into improper fraction.

7 \times \frac{1}{4}   \:  \:  \: +  \:  \:  \: 8 \:  \:  \:  + \:  \:  \: \:  2 \times \frac{1}{2}

 \frac{29}{4}  +  \frac{8}{1} +  \frac{5}{2}

Now , we wanna make the denominators same.

We wanna take L.C.M

L.C.M for 4,1,2 = 4

 \frac{29}{4}  \times  \frac{1}{1}  =  \frac{29}{4}

 \frac{8}{1}  \times  \frac{4}{4}  =    \frac{32}{4}

 \frac{5}{2}  \times  \frac{2}{2}  =  \frac{10}{4}

 \frac{29 + 32 +10}{4}

 \frac{51}{4}

12 \times \frac{3}{4}
