the \: two \: polynomials \: listed \: above \: are \:  \\  their \: sum \:  \\  =  5x⁴-3x³-6x²+4x+3 + 2x³+7x²+8 +3\\ rearranging \: terms \:  \\  = 5x {}^{4}  - 3x {}^{3}  + 2x {}^{3}  - 6x {}^{2}  + 7x {}^{2}  + 4x + 8 +3\\  = 5x {}^{4}  - x {}^{3}  + x {}^{2}  + 4x + 11

as polynomial 5x^{4} is the polynomial of highest power so the degree of polynomial is 4
